Design x Health students celebrated the end of our first semester as an organization with a dinner at the Center for Complexity. We highlighted the work we accomplished, shared future plans, and announced leadership opportunities. Design x Health members Maia Buljeta, Amy Qu, and Hanqing Tang presented their work to the group

Design x Health students celebrated the end of our first semester as an organization with a dinner at the Center for Complexity. We highlighted the work we accomplished, shared future plans, and announced leadership opportunities. Design x Health members Maia Buljeta, Amy Qu, and Hanqing Tang presented their work to the group.

Over the course of three class meetings, Design x Health members from the Alpert Medical School, Brown, and RISD joined the Brown Biomedical Engineering Design and Innovation class as guest critics for draft poster reviews. Interdisciplinary teams of students presented engineering projects that addressed specific clinical and public health concerns, and Design x Health members provided feedback based on their experience and expertise in design and medicine. After the poster reviews, students enjoyed an informal lunch and networking opportunity.

Justin W. Cook, Founding Director, and Sahib Singh, Strategic Design Lead, from the RISD Center for Complexity spoke to Design x Health students during a dinner and lecture at the Alpert Medical School. Justin shared the CfC's approach to design, and several models for expanding the scope of consideration in design. Sahib explained how these concepts come into practice through his work with one of the CfC's partner organizations.

Aidan Petrie, founding partner of the NEMIC Foundation, Fellow of the Provost at RISD, and founding partner of Ximedica, one of the world’s leading medical device developers, spoke to Design x Health during a dinner and lecture. An expert on MedTech innovation, Aidan set a background for the field, then dove into the challenges and opportunities of this highly regulated industry. He covered new models for healthcare, the requirements for innovation, tips for navigating the FDA process, and healthcare investment trends.
